BEST OF DAYS
This third studio album, “Best of Days” is a collection of 15 years of songwriting, beautifully performed and recorded in Clay’s home studio near Richmond, VA. Mottley’s topics of songwriting have matured over the years, demonstrated by songs of children and family. “The Giver” encompasses the arc of a selfish single to a family man. “Little Child of Mine” is a warm lullaby, reminiscent of Paul Simon’s “St Judy’s Comet.” Stylistically, Mottley doesn’t settle for a single genre, venturing into folk (“A Hundred Years, Little Child of Mine”), country-leaning pop (“Best of Days,” “That’s the Way Love Grows”) and upbeat dance numbers (“There She Goes,” “Juanita,” “Let Her Go”).
Ultimately, Mottley continues to proof himself as a strong songwriter and musician, performing many of the instruments himself on several songs.
